The humble Video Store v Streaming Media

Who remembers when on Friday after work you would stop into the Video store and hire movies to watch that night and all through the weekend?  Well I do, and they have virtually closed all of them down.  In my home town we only have one small video shop, however I don't even think its still open.  Perhaps some Milk bars still have them.  I am doubtful.

Now that we have moved away from renting Videos at the Video store, we have Netflix, Stan, Presto, Foxtel, Fetch Tv and probably many more that you can subscribe to watch on you Smart TV, Apple TV, smart phone, tablet or compatible device.

The problems that I am facing is that companies like Netflix just can't keep up, I am finding that I am watching whole season's in a day or weekend.  Then I have to wait till they bring out the next season.  Or worse still one platform has season 1 and 2, and then another has up to season 4 available for example.  I have Stan, Netflix and Fetch TV, and you can be forgiven for thinking that this is overkill.  However, I find that I can get The Walking Dead on Fetch TV up to season 6, however I have to buy it.  I think that they should make this available as a subscription option not a purchase option.

Can Fetch TV make available Foxtel channels without having Foxtel connected?  Will they head down that road, for example Telstra has Foxtel with Telstra, and Optus has Foxtel with Optus, but you can't get Foxtel on Fetch TV or Telstra Box.

What are Netflix and the likes of Stan going to do - particularily that the next season of The Walking Dead is coming to Foxtel in October some time this year, however I no longer have Foxtel.  What are the other companies going to do -and what services are they going to offer?

The Governing bodies of Media should be allowing all companies access to everything, so no matter which company you choose to subscribe to you can watch it all.  Perhaps each company involved can make a deal with each other to allow their subscribers to gain access as a subscription offer for either just the shows or the actual channels only.  That way you don't miss out, each company has a cut from it, everyone makes money and all consumers get the variety they deserve.

Feeling Down

Today is Friday and I am not feeling the best. Have started taking tables to bring on my periods. I have got them but I have been in agony all week. I only went once to the gym this week because the cramps were that bad.

Tomorrow I will start the Clomid Tablets and I have my scan on the 18th to see what is happening with all that. Hopefully next month I can tell everyone that I am pregnant. I am really scared and don't know what to excpect and don't want to get my hopes up too high incase it fails this time around.

My husband and I were talking about the kids that we are going to have and then realising that this dream may not ever happen. My husband keeps his feelings to himself and all he says is well we will have to get another dog and buy a camper trailer to go on more holidays together.

More soon.

My Home

You remember when I moved to my new home and was complaining about the unpacking, well that was nothing. My bright idea was to get pavers for the pergola instead of decking like Rob suggested. You wouldn't believe how much trouble we are having. The digging - damn the ground is hard as a rock. It is gonna take a long time to dig out. Poor Rob will have to do most of that himself as I can't even brake the ground up to dig it. Anyway the good news is my good ol bonus came through and thanks to that we got the pavers in the first place. Rob has done a remarkable job on it and I am very proud of him. He just read books on how to do it and he did it. He is amazing in my eyes. Not to mention all the money we saved by him doing all the work himself. WHAT A GUY! my darling husband is. Anyway if I learn how to put pictures on here Ill show you the end result when its all done.

THE WEB

As you all know I have been writing a book, and I am up to Chapter 5 at the moment and boy it is taking me ages to finish, and I have a long way to go. Then there is my new website I am trying to get up and running. I promise it will be interesting and informative. For those of you who know me you already know about my website and what it is for. Thanks for your support guys.

With my book I have been doing a lot of research as I go along and let me tell you GOOGLE is the bomb. I have been finding everything I need in the form of research for my book there. I am deciding at the moment which page I will put up, it has to reflect me and my personality and at the same time be professional and easy to navigate. So you see everything has to be perfect. By the way Brigit when you come over you can read Chapter 5, I know how you have been dying to find out what happens next in my book. I myself am having new and exciting ideas of how I can make the plot thicken. It is very exciting doing this and also call it THEROPY, I am. It is a souce of release for me to write and I feel good when I write. Please feel free to all make comments on CHATTERBOX blog.

Thanks and bye.

How it is now

Hello to all

It has been awhile since I blogged, but here I am. Well the latest news is that my husband got me a little puppy, a little Maltese Terrier. She is the apple of my eye. Also Rob has been doing allot around the house, he built a Pergola, will be doing the paving next.

At the work front, I got a big bonus and hence the reason we are doing the paving next. That was a surprise and a nice one. All is the same at work, nothing has changed my role is what it is and that won't change. I hope to still get into Marketing.

The real big news is that I am creating a website - well I can't tell you what it's called but will keep you posted. Basically its an information website for all us big girls. It will have heaps of links to great online stores, and general information, plus the added bonus of my blog. Well I can tell you sometimes it will be serious and sometimes you will cry laughing. Although you will find it very informative and a relief that you can find pretty much anything you need for your size though the links on my website.

Now my reviews of stores etc will be real as I can only review if I have purchased myself. At least you can know what kind of service you are going to get.

Well I am getting ready right about now to pack for my little trip to Port Fairy. We are going for a week and I am sure Ill have some good stories to tell you.

Till then as always

I do not know why

I do not know why I can not sleep at night
I do not know why I feel alone day and night
I do not know why work seems long and lifeless
I do not know why my husband seems so far away
I do not know why, I do not know why
It all becomes clear
I am empty inside

DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY

Hello folks

It has been awhile since we talked. The latest news is that I have started a Latin American Dance Class, boy was it tough. I made it through two dances before I crashed and burned. My whole body was killing me, I didn't know I had these muscles. However, in saying that I was allot of fun too. I met some really nice people and danced with some pretty cute guys. HEEHEHE, there was this one guy who was a champion, he was so nice to me, he didn't laugh and that made it a lot easier to do. Actually they were all really nice, and about the cute guys, none as cute as my Robert. I wish he wanted to join me in these classes, I know if he gave it a go that he would actually have fun. Not to mention spend time with me. I miss us doing stuff together, and this dancing thing is important to me, I hoped it would be important to him too.
Never mind, I will go again next week and hopefully finish three dances. I am going to bed now and let me tell you ill be sleeping like a baby.

Do yourself a favour take a dance class, there is nothing more refreshing than dancing and not realising you are exercising and it releaves stress too, and gets your heart rate up. I was sweating that is for sure.

This week

Today is Friday and the last day of my first week at work. I am the new Receptionist of a Company in my home town. It has been a fantastic week and I am sure I'll only get better and better once I have settled in. I did a hell of a lot of filing but that will die down next week. They had a lot of back log. What can I say, I think that I will live out my days here unless they hate me after 3 months and sack me. Who knows. I may even get pregnant and have to leave. That would be a shame and it would be a happy occasion.

I have showed everyone at work the Wedding book I did on www.blurb.com they all loved it so much that they are going to check it out and make their own books. I have started a trend. It's a good thing though. Well I'll keep you posted of the coming weeks. Tomorrow Suzie and Nana are coming over and I can't wait. I get to see my two gorgeous nephews and little sis & bro in law.

That is all for now people.

Third time lucky

Have you ever wondered why things happen the way they do? Well I do, all the time. Let me start at the beginning. In March I resigned my position with a Company, I was so nervous and was quite scared to do it. To my surprise the Branch Manager told me that I was an asset the the Company and that since I was moving so far away I should consider working at the Logistics side of the business. He said he would recommend me.

I thought, hey that sounds alright and so I went and did the whole meet my new employer even though I had already met him as he used to Manage Logistics at the same site as my job I just resigned from. Anyway, after starting there, I just got the job and only worked three days and decided that this wasn't for me and so I quit. I was pretty scared at the future of looking for work. So that morning I got onto the web and found the Company that I wanted to work for that happened to be in the town I live in.

They said they may have something going very soon in reception. In any case, I sent my details to them on their website and also called them. They replied a few days later saying that they would definitely keep me in mind. I thought great. Then I found some more details about another Company that I thought I may like to work for. I did the same thing, got the interviews and finally got the job. It had only taken me 2 weeks between jobs. I was amazed. I didn't hear anything more from the Company I really wanted that was in my home town.

In any case I worked not even two weeks when this other Company called me and so I went to the interview, however it wasn't an interview more like this is the job when can you start. I was thrilled and so I resigned from the other job. I am starting my new job on Monday.

The moral of this story is that this was a third time lucky situation and it panned out for me. It just goes to show you that when your confidence is high and you move to a new place and start fresh, it can be scary but at the same time your luck may finally come your way. This type of thing never happened to me before and sometimes I think my departed Mother had her hand in it in the spirit world.

Blurb

Hello folks

I have been introduced to a wonderful website called www.blurb.com. Basically you can download a program (for free) and write a book using this program, all the templates etc are in the program and you can do many things with it. For instance, I created a hard cover book with all my wedding pictures in the book.

What you do is download the program, write a book etc upload that to blurb and pay them money to print it for you. For all those writers out there who never get published, here is your big chance to do something like write your own book and get it printed and sell it online.

I just got my book in the mail today, it looks fantastic. A hard cover book with all my Wedding memories inside. The people I showed were so impressed they are going to do the same thing. I am also in the process of writing my novel. I am only up to chapter 2 but this has inspired me to keep writing it and hopefully it will be finished sometime soon and I can get it printed and sell it. This story has been in my head since I was in grade 5.

This is the time in my life when I read a lot of books and this inspired the story in the first place. I am looking forward to getting this finished and show everyone my story. Hope they all like it.

Till the next time

Job Hunting

Recently I have found myself looking for work again. I have not had to do that for about 2 years and have been trying to remember and research what to do now. I guess I got myself in a state over it because I was so used to going to work everyday that when I was at home like I am now I am lost.

I found a few usual things in the last week, I would recommend that you look up in your local area the Council or Municipal. There you can find employment groups, even jobs at the Council. I have written down a few places like Schools ( to which I may work in ) and also will be calling up the employment agencies in the area on Monday. Wish me luck on that.

What I have discovered is that my resume has had some excellent feed back from employers and that is always promising. I find that with your resume you have so many people and or Agencies telling you to do it this or that way. What I did is simply list my Employment history, any certificates or achievements in School or College/Tafe. My interests and at the top a list of Computer skills I have acquired along the way. Closing off with Referees.

It has worked for me and I think that even though hundreds of applications come through looking the same, I found that if you know that this will be the case; send yours in a pastel colour. Just enough difference that will catch someones eye. It may not be conventional but it can be an eye opener. Of course keep in mind the type of organisation you are applying to as you will find that if you are going for a job somewhere where you have a lot of old school people and someone over 50 they may not give you the job because of your bold statement. Use your discretion and common sense.

When writing letters, I start with the first paragraph stating that you are applying for the position advertised or cold canvas which ever it is. In the second paragraph I state that I have worked in that Industry or have had over 10 years experience (in my case), and tell them about my organisation and communication skills. Customer relation skills etc. In the closing paragraph I ask that they contact me on the contact numbers provided and thank them for their time.

Love

Hello again

Today my youngest sister came over with her husband and two little boys, Anwar and Shaheed. I had not seen them for about 3 weeks and suddenly realised how much they meant to me and how much I loved them. Rob and I don't have children and desperately want them. We are trying but to no avail. However, it has only been 6 months of us trying. The thing I wanted to say is that the two boys are the most beautiful souls and they can't even talk yet. Anwar with his cheeky smile and Shaheed always laughing and smiling. They are truly amazing and special kids. I love them dearly. I also love the way Suzi and Nana love each other, you can see the love in the room and in their children's eyes.

I have achieved everything that I really wanted in life bar having children. Ill keep you all posted on that in the near future. Hopefully by the end of this year I'll be a mum too.

That's all for now folks.

MEN AND WOMEN

You might think oh no, this has been written about since time began, but this is the year 2002 and things are very different for both men and women of today. The hopes and dreams are very different sometimes. And the next few paragraphs are what most men and women think of each other.

Picture this, a girl on a Friday night getting her self all dolled up for that night on the town. What will she wear? What shoes will go with her outfit? Will she meet the man of her dreams tonight? These are those million dollar questions that I know most girls ask.

Men on the other hand, and yes I’ve heard them talking when they didn’t know I was around, have a complete different prospective where all this is concerned. A man would think damn I’m hot going to get lucky tonight. And that’s it. That is as far as they can think ahead. Yes sure they put their suits on, and the aftershave. But when their night comes down to it, it’s all about, who they will pick up and have their way with tonight.

See the difference here. Now that you all have this picture in your head this will be easy to imagine. One night I went out with the girls, under protest mind you, and when I walked into this place all I kept thinking was oh my God. There were guys there that I watched out of curiosity and to see what they would do. One guy was ogling this girl so much that he dropped his drink to the floor, stumbled into a chair in front of him and crashed to the floor in a heap. It was hilarious to watch but it was also a bit of a worry to me.

This does not say that much about men does it, but what was worse than that was I also watched some of the girls to see where there heads were and what they would do. Now let me tell you I was not impressed to say the least. This one girl got so drunk that she did not look like much of a lady, now you can envision where I am going with this. She was sitting at the bar with about 5 guys all standing around her, she also wore a mini and was not embarrassed to flaunt her self like a dangling piece of cheese in front of a mouse.

The moral of this story is that Men and Women are not really that different and we really can not judge all men by the way that guy behaved or the way that girl behaved for that matter. We are all unique and different in our own ways. Now the next time you go out take a look around you and you may not find the above two attractive but I can guarantee that if you look closer then those two you might be pleasantly surprised.

NIGHT OUT WITH THE GIRLS OR NOT!!!

(This is a little story I wrote)

Tonight is the night; yes I’m going out with the girls. You can imagine that the “Getting Ready” process will be quite painful for me; well actually it’s bloody hilarious where I am concerned. I take a shower, do the whole chick cleansing, toning and moisturising. Conditioning treatment in the hair and the horrendous chore of plucking my eyebrows.

Ohhhhhhh finding out what I am going to wear”, What a joke that is, well let me see, what to do what to do, well will you look at that, there in my closet is the (outfit) to end all outfits, yes its the one and only black top, black pants and it would not be complete without the black shoes, flat ones of course, (have you seen me walking in high heels, what a pisser).

Outside for that cigarette while my hair is drying, you need to get the hair do right or I cannot possibly go anywhere. I have it all decked out with coffee table, ashtray, and the good old outdoor fold out chair. It’s an Aussie dream; no it’s the garden-shed.

Meanwhile the house is buzzing I’ve got sisters running around everywhere, doing the same thing as me. Except that they do this every week and this is the first time in 12 months I’ve been out. What the hell am I doing, well apparently I am going out with the girls. This will be interesting.

I go to my room, get the hair dryer and start blow drying my hair, and you wouldn’t believe what happened next, the hair dryer blew up made my whole arm black, fell to my stomach, burned right through my top, my pants even my underwear to leave a lovely round burn on my gut. How attractive is that, guess I won’t be getting lucky tonight. How would you be? Like a pork chop if you ask me.

What now, no hair dryer, nearly get electrocuted have a burn on my stomach, I better go and use my sis’s hair dryer. If I let it dry too long it will frizz right up, as if it didn’t already from the shock. I get the dryer finally and try again. It took me a whole hour to dry it, what an effort looking good.

Have to put my face on, now this will be fun lets see if I don’t poke myself in the eye with my eye liner or worse stick the whole mascara brush in my eye ball and blind myself. You know the drill first comes the foundation, powder, eyes, lips and the finishing touch rouge. Beautiful.

There you have it, two and a half hours later I have managed to totally devastate my self to the point that I need another cigarette. Laugh all you want, but at least my curtains won’t need washing every day. Taking a few deep breaths waiting for the others while having that all-important quiet moment to myself, gathering my thoughts.

We finally arrive at the night spot, and this is where I start to feel dizzy again, you would too if you nearly got electrocuted, put gunk on your face and was just about to walk into this place that you got dragged to anyway. All I can say is that if this is what it takes to be a girl in the year 2002, have it, I’d rather chuck the trackies on, wash the make up off and have a BBQ and the Aussie famous brewskie night at home with my mates partying!!!

Enjoy!!

Luv Katly

Did you know

Hello All

I have just moved into my new home with my husband. Talk about a lot of work, the unpacking process is a killer. I finally put all the things away and made this house into our home. It's funny how when you buy a house there are all these never ending projects that you want to do. My husband has put up the letterbox, put up some gates, staining them as we speak. There are all these things outside that my husband wants to build. He has gotten right into DIY projects.

Me on the other hand, I have been fixing things up inside, buying new and matching items for the kitchen and dining table. Boy they were really onto something when they wrote the book Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars. Or is that the other way around. Oops not sure there.

I am now finding myself trying to create new and interesting dishes for dinner. Who would have thought. I am all domesticated.

More soon I promise. I haven't even begun, and believe me I have a lot more to tell you and ask you and share with you.

Until then

Love Katly
